      The Board next proceeded with the election of a superintendent of the laundry. The candidates had been reduced to three by the Workhouse Committee and the election ultimately fell upon Leah Philo, from the laundry of the Surrey Lunatic Asylum, Tooting.

      An application was made by Leah Philo, superintendent of the laundry at the Workhouse, and another from W Sibley, assistant baker, both asking for an increase of salary. Referred to Workhouse Committee.

      Leah Philo a spinster age 29 of 1 Bow Road married Alfred Caton a bachelor Clerk age 29 of Garlickhithe on 13 December 1868 at St James, Garlickhithe, London City. The witnesses were Francis John George Caton (his father) and Ann Caton. (I have a copy of the register entry)
