      A serious Charge
      James Jones, 24, a private in the 12th Lancers, was indicted for an assault on Florence Maud Philo, a servant, with intent to harm her, near Aldershot, in March last. Mr. Baker appeared on behalf of the prosecution, and Mr. Pocock instructed by G W Lay, was for the defence. As the case was proceeding a question arose whether the court had jurisdiction in consequence of what the prosecutrix admitted. Mr. Pocock asked for an aquital, but the Chairman thought the charge could be withdrawn and the accused indicted of graver charges. He, however put the case back until Thursday to enable Mr. Baker to consider what course he would take.
